Pitch Pals® is the new app from halooda aimed at helping young children to develop the skills needed to enjoy and succeed in music, by playing fun and enthralling musical games led by Peter Parrot and the Pitch Pals
It can be played alone or is also great to play with more than one child, with a parent, or as a whole family! The children may soon be better than the adults….
Learning to sing in tune, to play an instrument, or to do well in music at school, are all made easier if you have developed a ‘musical ear’
Pitch Pals is designed to be great fun for young children and to build fundamental skills like hearing if notes are higher or lower, singing a note clearly, controlling the pitch of the singing voice, building musical memory, and learning where the different notes are in musical notation
Too many people believe they are not musical or can’t sing, because they didn’t get the right early experiences of music
The Pitch Pals app provides the safe, fun, early practice that will help children to develop their inner musicality and become more musically confident for life
Based on the academic research, we also hope that some children (we don’t know how many yet) will gain a sense of absolute or ‘perfect’ pitch by using the app
This is because evidence suggests that the way people get perfect pitch is to make the link between the name of a note and its absolute pitch before a critical age threshold of about 6 to 7 years old. After this age, the way the brain develops makes this much more difficult
Helping to make those links is one of the things the Pitch Pals app is designed to do
The Pitch Pal games make learning music a fun and natural experience
Learn from Peter Parrot and the Pitch Pal characters who guide you through each game.
Join Peter and the Pitch Pals in their musical experiences and learn notes, vocal skills, and different musical instruments along the way.
Each Pitch Pal represents a different musical note, has a different background and personality, and plays a different instrument. Explore different styles of music with them and discover your own musical talents.
Sing a note back to me
In this game the player chooses a note represented by a Pitch Pal character, who introduces themselves and sings their note.
The player then sings the same note back. If they sing at the correct pitch, they get applause. If the note is not accurate, the player gets feedback and the chance to try again.
This develops the ability to hear the pitch of a note and copy it. It also helps to develop the confidence to sing and helps make the link between names of notes, their pitches, and where they are shown in written music.
It is an important foundation for later games.
Find this note
In this game the player chooses a musical instrument. The app then plays any note between C and B on that instrument without showing it.
The player then presses the note or character they believe was played. If they choose the right note they get applause and a song. If they choose the wrong note, the app plays the original note again so that the player can hear if the note they played was too high or too low, and can have more tries.
This game helps develop the ability to hear the pitch of notes played on different instruments, to hear how much a note was higher or lower than another note, and to make the link between the name of a note, its pitch and where it is shown in musical notation.
